With my photographs, I aim to surprise, to find angles, ideas, and feelings that the viewer might not expect. I search and yearn for moments that sometimes last for a fraction of a second—those moments that, in their haste, the untrained or inexperienced eye misses. My camera is simply my third eye, which sees things that my own eyes, or the eyes of others, cannot.

Whenever I see a particular scene, a thought comes to mind: "How would this look through the camera?" The question then becomes which camera would be the right fit: a large format 4x5 inch Graflex, a Leica, or a Mamiya 7? These are just a few of the cameras I cherish and with which I create my work.

My passion for photography began with a simple yet profound observation: the astonishing difference in the colors of the sea in the Northern Hemisphere versus the Southern, from the Atlantic to the Pacific, all witnessed during my musical travels.

As a pianist on cruise ships, I've had the privilege of seeing the world through different eyes, travelling to every corner of the globe—from Oman and Saudi Arabia to Australia, Greenland, Iceland, and South Africa, you name it. This incredible experience sparked a desire to show people that reality, unedited and authentic, can be captured and conveyed in a genuine way.

I started with a simple Polaroid camera because I wanted an analogue technique that could capture the essence of a moment. This is how I came to have the exhibition at White Cuib mentioned in other parts of my website. But I didn't stop there. My fascination with "hands-on" photography led me to learn every step of the process, from capture to developing and printing.

A pivotal moment came when I realised that traditional photo labs weren't up to scratch. They'd mix films of different sensitivities (ISO), which dramatically lowered the quality of the final prints and altered the image I'd worked so hard to achieve with my camera. This disappointment spurred me on to set up my own lab and find a way to produce images exactly as I envisioned them.

I started in an improvised space, counting seconds in my head to develop the first images, absolutely fascinated by the magic happening before my eyes. In London, I learned this almost forgotten craft from four world-class film photography labs. Over the years, I've consistently invested in equipment, and I now have a professional, fully-equipped lab in Cluj. This unique lab allows me to print on both colour and black and white film, from small 35mm formats to large 8x10 inch prints. The quality I can achieve is on par with what you'd find in top London and international photography labs.

I'm a huge fan of black and white photos because I believe they have a much greater impact on the subconscious. Only about 20% of my work is in colour.

— Contemplation

I chose the first piece in this collection, "Meditative Gaze," for the feeling it evokes when you look at it. It makes you think about the meaning of life, about fragility and sensitivity. It makes you aware of the windows we often look through and helps you achieve a deeply meditative state.

I took the photograph in Bucovina, where I was for a horse-riding session. I was unhappy because I hadn't had enough time or intimacy with these wonderful creatures. On my way back to the car through the stable, I noticed this "frame," but I didn't have my camera with me. I went to get it, and when I returned, the horse was no longer in the same position. Fortunately, after a few minutes of waiting, the image reappeared.

— Ephemeral

For me, this piece speaks to ephemerality and the impossibility of capturing a single moment. It’s all about the incredibly fast pace of life we’re caught in every day. This work serves as a powerful reminder to stop, be present, connect with myself, and truly see my loved ones. The seemingly un-capturable motion in the photograph is a sign for us to pause the hustle, stress, and anxiety, and simply look.

I took the photograph in Munich while returning from a major concert. I was at the airport, amidst the typical chaos, sitting on a terrace and observing these birds as they foraged for food. My initial intention was to capture them more clearly. However, although I was first disappointed during the developing process that the image wasn't sharp, I soon realised that this "mistake" gave it a unique feel—a sentiment that the present moment is enough, and nothing more is needed.

— Curiosity

I like this piece first and foremost for its aesthetic simplicity, and secondly for the curious, innocent, and slightly indiscreet look of the young man in the image. I believe the picture evokes a part of ourselves that we don't necessarily have access to anymore: that inner child who looks on with curiosity at a scene unfolding before him, a scene that seems to intrigue him and make him want to know more. At the same time, it shows that sneakiness we no longer allow ourselves as adults.

I took the photograph in the village of Gălănești, Suceava county. The scene I was in would have deserved a shot of its own: I was hiding behind a fence and didn't want to distract the subject. So, I chose to crouch down, prepare the camera while sitting, and then rise for just a second to take the shot before retreating sneakily (haha).
